Morocco Reopens Cafes and Restaurants for Takeout and Delivery, Strict Rules in Place

The Ministry of the Interior has authorized cafes and restaurants to resume their activities from Thursday, May 28. However, this lifting of restrictions is subject to conditions.
After more than two months of closure, coffee lovers can return to cafes and restaurants, without however hoping to sit at tables. The new measures introduced by the supervisory ministry will force the population to change its habits.
"As of today, cafes and restaurants can open initially for takeout or home delivery. They must comply with social distancing measures, wearing masks, hygiene rules...," said Abdel Elfadi, coordinator of the Joint Commission of Food Trades.
The establishments authorized to reopen have been sorted according to their responses to the required criteria and the assessments of the local authorities in each sector.
For its part, the national association of cafe owners had tried to assert the demands of cafe owners, by conditioning the reopening of their public spaces to the response of the Moroccan government.
For its president, it would be unthinkable to proceed with the reopening of cafes in the current state of affairs, if the authorities do not agree to adopt a consensual health protocol, to submit a strategy to revive the sector, to propose an amnesty on arrears and to regularize the situation of hundreds of thousands of employees.
