Morocco Ranks 76th Globally in English Proficiency, Study Finds

While Moroccans are increasingly abandoning French for English, Morocco is still lagging behind in mastering the language of Shakespeare.
With a score of 478 points, Morocco ranks 76th out of 113 countries in terms of English skills, according to a study by "Education First", a Swiss-based institution. At the continental level, the kingdom ranks 9th, ahead of Algeria 10th (77th worldwide). The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region is at the top of the Moroccan regions mastering English. It is closely followed by Casablanca-Settat and Souss-Massa, as well as Marrakech-Safi and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima. The Draa-Tafilalet region, on the other hand, holds the lantern.
As for Moroccan cities, Rabat dominates the ranking in terms of mastery of English. It is followed by El Jadida (2nd place) and Oujda (3rd). Béni Mellal and Nador occupy the last two positions. The study by the Swiss organization also points out that young Moroccans aged 21 to 25 show greater aptitude in mastering English, notes TelQuel.
With a score of 647 points, the Netherlands tops the global ranking. They are closely followed by Singapore (631 points) and Austria (616 points). Denmark (615 points) and Norway (614 points) complete the global top 5. At the continental level, South Africa ranks first (9th globally), followed by Kenya (19th), Nigeria (27th) and Ghana (34th). Then come Uganda (47th), Tunisia (63rd), Tanzania (67th) and Ethiopia (69th).
