Morocco Ranks 6th in Top Destinations for French Retirees

Morocco is in the Top 10 of the best countries in the world where French retirees like to expatriate to live their retirement, according to the 2025 ranking of the Retraite Sans Frontières website.
Morocco has lost one place compared to last year, positioning itself in sixth place, ahead of Tunisia, seventh. The two Maghreb countries have fallen in the ranking due to the perceived insecurity of some retirees. As in previous years, Portugal dominates this ranking. The country remains attractive for French retirees because of the good weather, its proximity to France (barely two hours by plane), its rich cultural heritage and the advantages in terms of access to healthcare.
Spain comes in second place for the same reasons mentioned for Portugal. It is followed by Greece, third, thanks to its paradisiacal setting and affordable cost of living. Thailand occupies the fourth place in the ranking. "Rent included, a retired couple can live there for less than 1,000 euros per month," explains Paul Delahoutre, the founder of Retraite sans Frontières. Mauritius closes this Top 5. It gains two places compared to last year.
This ranking was made on the basis of precise criteria, developed taking into account the concerns of retirees wishing to expatriate. "The cost of living criterion is the most important for them," said Paul Delahoutre, specifying that purchasing power accounts for 20% of the score, the country’s climate for 15%, and the quality of medical care, security and accessibility for 10% each.
In addition to Morocco (sixth) and Tunisia (seventh), the rest of the Top 10 is made up of Senegal (eighth), Bali (ninth), and the Dominican Republic, which is making its debut in the ranking, thanks to its paradisiacal setting and Las Terrenas, its French village. The site recommends that retirees wishing to live abroad request a certificate of entitlement to healthcare, reminding them that they will lose the solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa) or the supplementary disability allowance (ASI).
