Morocco Ramps Up Face Mask Production to 8 Million Daily, Minister Reports

The Minister of Industry and Trade, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, reassures of a stock of subsidized masks well above demand. He stated this in the evening news on 2M, last Wednesday, when discussing the measures taken to fight the spread of coronavirus.

"We will exceed 8 million masks produced per day". This is the statement of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, on 2M. A statement that comes to reassure that the kingdom cannot record a shortage of protective masks.

The minister was keen to specify that Morocco has produced 81.9 million masks, distributed in the various sales outlets. Whereas at the beginning of the pandemic, the kingdom was importing them. Seventeen factories ensure this daily production without exporting any piece. An external provider is chosen to certify the quality of the masks.

The minister recalls that the 8 million masks produced daily will not be enough. Because these masks are disposable after 3 or 4 hours of use. This is why the kingdom has recently embarked on the production of washable and reusable masks for about a week. In addition, 75,000 protective visors are produced per day; a production that could evolve to reach 125,000 pieces produced.

Moulay Hafid Elalamy reassures that there will be no shortage of protective masks. He justifies his statement by the many measures taken by Morocco to ensure supply and especially in view of the distribution platform put in place.
