Morocco Ramps Up Mask Production to 7.5 Million Daily, Eyes Export Market

Since Morocco decided to embark on the production of protective masks to combat the coronavirus epidemic, it has managed to produce a total of 160 million masks. And these "Made in Morocco" masks will soon land on the international market.

The daily production of masks in Morocco has reached 7.5 million. The kingdom could already have started exporting these masks, if the Ministry of Commerce had not "put in place a list of products, including surgical masks, requiring special authorization before their import or export." A decision that took effect as soon as it was published in the official journal on March 2.

Minister Moulay Hafid Elalamy had stated that "when there would no longer be a shortage of masks in Morocco, the industrial units would be able to turn to exports." This moment has therefore come since the country has succeeded in meeting the expectations of the populations in terms of masks, through a strong daily production, reports Hespress which points out that "the ministry would have authorized 36 companies to manufacture the masks subsidized by the State, and other reusable fabric masks".

Today, in Morocco, 54 SMEs and cooperatives produce more than one and a half million of these non-woven washable fabric masks per day," the same source specifies.
