Morocco to Raise Cigarette Taxes in 2020, Prices Expected to Climb

The new increase in taxes planned by the Moroccan Government against the tobacco industry, starting in early 2020, will have a direct impact on cigarette prices.
According to the Maroc Intelligence website, "a new fiscal reshuffle is being prepared to deal with the various players guilty of dumping, tax evasion and unfair competition."
The site adds that these new measures will be implemented before the end of 2019. The same goes for the publication of the 2020 Finance Bill which will be operational from January 1st.
For the record, increases ranging from 7 to 20 dirhams on packs of cigarettes were voted in the 2019 finance law, without ever seeing the light of day, thus depriving the State of very significant financial resources.
