Morocco to Raise Cigarette Prices in 2023, Aiming to Boost Tax Revenue

Bad news for smokers in Morocco. As of January 2023, cigarette prices will see a new increase.
Smokers will have to pay 2 to 3 dirhams more as of next January. This time, it is for the State to "collect some 12.5 billion dirhams in domestic consumption tax (TIC) on manufactured tobaccos, instead of the 11.8 billion dirhams that will have been collected in 2022," reports Le360.
According to experts, all cigarette brands distributed in Morocco are affected by this increase in TIC. But they are waiting for 2023 to see the effectiveness of this measure. However, the homologation commission for the pricing of manufactured tobacco products should meet in the next few days, and will make a final decision on whether or not to raise cigarette prices.
