Morocco to Raise Cigarette Prices in 2024 as Part of Tax Increase

Cigarette pack prices will increase as of January 1 in Morocco, in accordance with the provisions relating to the increase in the domestic consumption tax (TIC) on tobacco.
The aim for the State is to "collect some 12.5 billion dirhams in domestic consumption tax (TIC) on manufactured tobacco, instead of the 11.8 billion dirhams that will have been generated in 2022," the Ministry of Commerce had indicated.
This increase applies to certain products, indicates a note from the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII), specifying that it concerns certain brands of cigarettes, rolling tobacco, "m3assel" (molasses used in hookahs), cigars sold individually and by box and cigarillos.
Thus, the prices of the Marquise, Marlboro, Winston, Camel and Gauloises brands will for example see an increase of 1 to 2 dirhams, indicates the ADII.
