Morocco Prepares for Omicron Variant as Health Official Urges Continued Vigilance

Mouad El Mourabit, the coordinator of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center, stated that Morocco is ready to face the new Omicron variant, "in anticipation of any pandemic relapse".
According to Mouad El Mourabit, the emergence of the Omicron variant requires full citizen adherence to the efforts made by the Kingdom to protect itself from the virus. "We must be proud of the achievements of our country, in terms of figures and data, in connection with Covid-19," he stressed, before adding that if Morocco has been able to position itself in the small circle of the first countries with a developed health system, it is thanks to the anticipatory measures taken by the authorities.
The coordinator also explained that the genomic composition of the virus is characterized by its many mutations. In this context, he called for the acceleration of the vaccination campaign to better protect against critical cases, for compliance with preventive measures such as wearing masks and respecting physical distancing, while avoiding unnecessary gatherings and respecting the current health protocol.
