Omicron Surge Overwhelms Moroccan Hospitals as Variant Becomes Dominant

In Morocco, more than half of people infected with Covid-19 have contracted the Omicron variant. The virus has become dominant according to health authorities.
Reputed to be faster than other variants, Omicron is raging in the kingdom with a surge in cases in several regions. The situation remains under control for the time being, but emergency and intensive care services are overwhelmed in certain cities, particularly in Casablanca.
According to Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb, there are about 150 people in critical condition in intensive care, 35% of these critical cases are absolutely not vaccinated, the rest have not received the second or third injection on time.
Moreover, the minister stressed the introduction of the drug Molnopiravir into the Covid-19 patient treatment protocol. The pill can protect patients from the coronavirus 50% better if administered in time. People should start taking the pill within five days of the first symptoms. They then take it twice a day for five days.
