Morocco Detects Four Omicron Cases, Raising Concerns of New Covid Surge

Morocco now has four cases of Omicron variant infection. Enough to fear a new outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
After the detection of the first case of Omicron variant infection in a woman from Casablanca, three new cases of contamination have been recorded in the Casablanca-Settat region, reports Assabah. A variant much feared by the Moroccan authorities. The latter could tighten preventive measures and decree a night curfew. Insofar as, the scientific data on this new variant remain limited, except for its spread, which is faster than that of the Delta variant.
Due to the rapid spread of the new variant of the Covid-19 virus - Omicron (B.1.1.529), particularly in Europe and Africa, and in order to preserve the achievements made by Morocco in the fight against the pandemic and protect the health of citizens, the Moroccan government had decided to suspend all direct passenger flights to the Kingdom of Morocco, for a period of 2 weeks, from Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm. On December 9, this decision was extended until December 31. Special flights are authorized until December 23 to allow the return of Moroccans stranded abroad.
