Giving birth close to home remains difficult for some women in Rhamna province. Cases of pregnant women transferred from the provincial hospital to facilities in Marrakech are reigniting criticism over the capacity of the local maternity service.

These transfers require patients and their families to travel approximately 70 kilometers. A difficult distance to manage when the mother’s or baby’s health condition requires rapid care.

An activist claims to have witnessed the transfer of a pregnant woman from Rhamna’s provincial hospital to Marrakech. According to him, waiting times, administrative procedures and transport organization increase family anxiety, reports Al3omk.

Families under pressure

The problem is not limited to the journey. Relatives must quickly find transportation, sometimes plan for additional expenses and accompany the patient to Marrakech, at the cost of significant psychological pressure.

The situation is even more difficult for families from rural municipalities. Some already travel a long distance to reach Benguerir, only to learn that another transfer to Marrakech is necessary.

These cases raise questions about the resources available within the provincial hospital’s maternity service. Lack of specialized doctors, staff, equipment or logistical resources: the reasons must be clearly identified, according to local critics.
