Food Poisoning Outbreak in Morocco: 13 Family Members Hospitalized After Eating Watermelon

Thirteen members of the same family, residing in the village of Oulad Hadou, commune of Ain Aicha (province of Taounate), were hospitalized following a food poisoning incident. The consumption of a watermelon, during a picnic near Argoua, would be the cause of these discomforts.
The lack of suitable medical facilities nearby complicated the initial care. Indeed, neither Ain Aicha nor even the provincial hospital of Taounate were able to provide the necessary care. The victims had to be urgently transferred to the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fès.
While nine people were able to return home, four children are still hospitalized. An association actor has also pointed out the lack of resources of the Taounate hospital, describing it as a simple "transfer station". According to him, this chronic situation jeopardizes the lives of the inhabitants, especially pregnant women, often forced to go to Fès to give birth.
