Morocco Plans High-Speed Rail Link Between Casablanca and Rabat Airports

Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of the National Railways Office (ONCF), unveiled new projects, including those to connect the airports of Rabat and Casablanca with high-speed trains (TGV).

The high-speed train (TGV) should connect Rabat-Salé airport to Mohammed V airport in Casablanca, Khlie said, adding that this train will also serve the key stadiums of the 2030 World Cup, particularly those in Rabat and Benslimane.

During an intervention on the Al Aoula channel, the ONCF director spoke of the colossal impact of this project on the economy and society, promising to decongest the overloaded axes and improve the RER urban transport network in the major cities.

Greater Casablanca will be at the heart of these transformations. On the Benslimane-Mohammedia-Nouaceur axis, no less than 15 new stations will be created, thus enabling great urban mobility and continuity with other modes of transport.

But Khlie and his team’s ambitions do not stop there: regional trains connecting Casablanca to El Jadida, Berrechid and Settat are also planned in the ONCF’s plans.

Employment will be at the heart of this strategy, promises Mohamed Rabie Khlie: around 70 million working days will be needed to carry out these titanic projects. And once operational, they will generate more than 350,000 permanent working days.
