Morocco Plans 80,000-Seat Covered Stadium Expansion in Tangier

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is considering expanding the great stadium of Tangier again. The project, still under study, aims to increase its capacity to 80,000 seats, in addition to its full coverage.
With an initial capacity of 45,000 seats, the Grand Stade de Tanger has recently been increased to 65,000 seats. The work was accelerated to allow this enclosure to host the Club World Cup, the kick-off of which is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1 in Morocco. The infrastructure is ready and approved by FIFA.
Speaking on Medi1Tv, Abdelmalek Abroun, a member of the FRMF’s executive committee in charge of infrastructure, said that this stadium will be the subject of a new extension project. This time, to increase the capacity to 80,000 seats, in preparation for the organization of the 2025 CAN, for which Morocco has applied.
In addition to the expansion, the project under study also includes its coverage, he specified, adding that the athletics track will be removed. The official also mentioned the project to build the great stadium of Casablanca, without however giving more details.
