Morocco Seeks Solar Power Investment for Major Football Stadiums

The National Football Stadium Management Company in Morocco is looking for partners capable of investing in the energy self-sufficiency of the major stadiums in Morocco.
Morocco aims to make the football stadiums in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Fez completely independent in terms of energy consumption. According to the National Company for the Use and Management of Football Stadiums, these various sports venues will soon be partially powered by solar energy.
Thus, Sonarges is looking for power plants that can cover between 60 and 90% of peak consumption or between 25 and 32% of the annual consumption of the four stadiums. This will be a 10-year contract that can be extended by 5 years if the parties involved wish.
For a few years now, Morocco has been committed to sustainable development and clean energy. The kingdom gradually aims to achieve 80% renewable energy by 2050. According to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, this is not impossible given the current technological development and the decrease in the cost of renewable energies. "The rapid and continuous decline in the cost of renewable energies and storage validates the orientation taken by Morocco and allows the adoption of very ambitious decarbonization strategies focused on the production of green electricity and hydrogen," it is stated.
