Morocco’s PJD Party Faces Decade-Long Recovery After Historic Election Defeat

The final results that led to the change in the Moroccan political map, marked by the historic failure of the PJD and the meteoric rise of Aziz Akhannouch’s RNI, as well as unexpected, even unexpected results for others. Analysis by Professor Khalid Cherkaoui Semmouni.
In a text published by Ecoactu, the academic stated that these results obtained on the evening of September 8 by the PJD were unexpected, as analysts and observers did not expect its electoral weight to be reduced to a trickle.
After recalling the reign of the Islamist party, which he said had surfed on the winds of the Arab Spring in 2011, while Moroccans were already demanding change, the academic estimated that the PJD was no longer able to meet the expectations of citizens, to reduce social disparities and to achieve social and spatial justice, the guarantees of hope and equality for all.
"This sanction vote on the part of the citizens explains the discontent with the government’s management of recent years," he stressed, adding that the party also paid the price for its failure to implement the new development model initiated by King Mohammed VI.
As for the future of the PJD, the academic stated that this collapse will have a direct impact on the party’s future, adding that they will only be able to recover after at least a decade of self-criticism and mobilization of a new generation referring to a "non-Islamized" ideology.
