Morocco Peace Index Ranking Beats France by 34 Positions

Morocco scores 1.887 in the Global Peace Index 2026, established by the Institute for Economics & Peace. France displays a score of 2.083. In this index, a low result corresponds to a higher level of peace.

The Kingdom gains three places compared to the previous edition, but its score remains almost unchanged, with an improvement limited to 0.001 point. France also rises three ranks, while its score deteriorates by 0.010 point. This difference reminds us that the position occupied also depends on the evolution of other countries: advancing in the ranking does not necessarily mean that the domestic situation has improved.

France nevertheless remains the lowest-ranked country in Western and Central Europe. The report notes a 2% deterioration in the field of safety and security, fueled by violent crime and a more negative perception of insecurity. More than one in four French people say they do not feel safe when walking alone at night, while just under one in ten claim to have suffered a violent crime during the year, the highest proportion in the region.

However, comparison with Morocco requires an important nuance. In the sole domain of safety and security, France obtains a score of 1.984, slightly better than Morocco’s, set at 1.995. Morocco’s clear advantage in the overall ranking therefore does not mean that all security indicators are better in the Kingdom.

The Global Peace Index combines 23 indicators covering internal security, national and international conflicts, and militarization. Morocco’s 65th place thus reflects a global profile judged more peaceful than France’s, and not a verdict limited to the delinquency risk encountered in daily life.
