Morocco Climbs to 78th in Global Peace Index, Outranking France

Morocco ranks 78th out of 163 countries in terms of peace, an improvement of 4 places compared to last year, according to the Global Peace Index 2024, published by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
The index, which measures the level of peace across three key domains - security, internal and international conflicts, and militarization - places Morocco in an average position globally. It should be noted that the three most peaceful countries in the world for the third consecutive year are Iceland, Ireland and Austria, while the United States ranks 132nd, losing two places compared to 2023, while France is ranked 86th globally.
Within the Arab world, Morocco stands out by ranking 6th, behind Kuwait (25th globally), Qatar (29th) and Oman (37th). The United Arab Emirates, on the other hand, gained 31 places to rank 53rd.
Other Arab countries have also seen progress, such as Tunisia, which has risen to 73rd place, while Algeria is ranked 90th. Libya, on the other hand, has fallen 9 places to reach 128th position.
Yemen, embroiled in a civil war for a decade, ranks for the first time at the bottom of the Arab and global list, in 163rd place, just after Sudan.
Ukraine, facing a major armed conflict, accounts for more than half of this number of deaths, with 83,000 killed. In Palestine, it is estimated that at least 33,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the year.
