Morocco Overhauls Housing Programs Amid Pandemic Recovery Efforts

The Ministry of Housing, Urban Planning and City Policy is preparing a new generation of specifications.
"We are preparing a new generation of specifications in many programs such as affordable housing, slum-free cities, etc., taking into account the constraints before and during the pandemic," said Minister Nezha Bouchareb during the presentation of her ministry’s sectoral budget to Parliament.
She intends to "carry out reforms and do so immediately." According to her, the 2021 Finance Act is exceptional. "It will push us to join the economic recovery without waiting. But, it requires a dose of audacity to frankly say what is not working and how to find solutions," Ms. Bouchareb is convinced.
Reviewing her department’s record, she hinted that the indicators in land use planning show a rate of 63% despite the shutdown of construction sites during the lockdown months. "In all the programs of the establishments under the supervision of the ministry, despite the delay recorded, we can say that 70% of the construction sites are running at a normal pace," she added.
