Morocco Unveils Plan to Revitalize Housing and Urban Development Amid Pandemic Challenges

Many challenges must be met to promote the revival of the housing and urban planning sector, said Nezha Bouchareb, Minister of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, on Saturday.

"The housing and urban planning sector has managed to record good results, despite the negative impact of the pandemic," said Bouchareb, during a conference on the theme "Reviving the housing and urban planning sector: new challenges facing the crisis", organized by the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University (UAE), in partnership with the ministry, reports La MAP. The sector has therefore been resilient to the crisis thanks to the leadership of King Mohammed VI who has been able to implement policies to engage the dynamic of solidarity, the development of the value chain, the dematerialization of procedures, and ensure the promotion of demand, the maintenance of employment and the involvement of professionals in the sector, the minister said.

"The new dynamic is already underway, we just need to get involved in it," Bouchareb then said, indicating that the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, in addition to its fishery and biodiversity resources, is a pool of qualified human resources that will need to be exploited in the development of the blue economy. The minister also calls for working towards social and spatial justice, which involves reducing social disparities and spatial inequalities in order to meet the needs of citizens.

For the President of Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, Bouchta El Moumni, this seminar aims to contribute to developing new visions and linking practical issues to scientific perspectives, in line with the vision of King Mohammed VI. It is an opportunity to address the various measures taken or to be taken to meet current and future challenges, in the light of the health crisis. Experts, presidents of higher education institutions under the university, professors, professionals, student researchers, officials from the housing and urban planning sector, and various civil society actors, took part in these exchanges which were sanctioned by the signing of a partnership agreement between the ministry and the university, with a view to promoting scientific research and training in the service of sustainable development.
