Morocco Slashes Housing Ministry Budget by 20% for 2021

390.92 million dirhams (MDH) is the budget allocated to investment for the Department of Housing and Urban Policy, for the year 2021. A budget down compared to 2020, which was 491.62 MDH, said the Minister of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, Nouzha Bouchareb.

Ms. Bouchareb indicated that with regard to the operating budget of her department, 202.36 MDH have been allocated to personnel expenses against nearly 187.04 MDH in 2020 and material and miscellaneous expenses amount to 88.63 MDH against 95.63 MDH in 2020.

With regard to the Ministry of National Land Use Planning and Urban Planning, the investment budget of this department amounts to 187.63 MDH, compared to 194.19 MDH in 2020. As for the operating budget of the same department in 2021, 160.70 MDH have been allocated to personnel expenses, compared to 145.26 MDH in 2020 and 553.63 MDH for material and miscellaneous expenses, as opposed to 554.08 MDH in 2020.

The orientations of the 2020-2021 finance law relating to the Ministry of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy are mainly aimed at mitigating social and territorial disparities and improving the efficiency of public governance. Not to mention the completion of the advanced regionalization project and the continuation of the pension system reform, in addition to the improvement of social services, especially during these times of pandemic.

The minister did not fail to indicate the challenges to be met in 2021, especially those relating to the regression of the budget allocated to her department, compared to the year 2020 and its impact on the achievement of the commitments included in the government program.
