Salé City Hall Budget Rejected Amid Revenue Shortfalls and Mounting Deficits

The 2021 budget project of the Salé city hall was rejected by the Ministry of the Interior following the approval of the City Council during the last session.
The provisions of the laws in force were not taken into account by the City Council in the preparation of the budget project, reports Al Akhbar. The Salé city hall is accused of insufficient revenue and deficiencies in the collection procedures.
These dysfunctions have impoverished the municipality, leading to serious repercussions on its functioning. According to the same source, the budget deficit has worsened for the 3rd consecutive year. It was impossible for the city hall to repay the loans taken out and to honor the expenses related to the fight against Covid-19.
These shortcomings have also impacted the municipality’s connection to the local payment system of the provincial treasury of Salé and investments in the city. Added to this is the heavy burden of judgments rendered against the city hall, due to management failures. However, the provisions of the organic law on municipalities confer on the governor the power to prepare another budget and implement it in case of rejection of the budget by the supervisory authority.
