Marrakech’s Tourism Scandal: Illegal Villa Rentals Spark Outrage and Calls for Crackdown

Owners of guest houses, hotels and classified tourist complexes in the city of Marrakech have expressed their discontent with the anarchic rental of villas.
A residential complex located on the Ourika road, comprising about twenty villas, has been transformed into a tourist complex, in violation of the texts in force, reports Kech24. The said complex has been rented to foreigners from the Gulf countries who would be carrying out illegal or immoral activities, according to neighbors and professionals in the sector.
These latter complain about the transformation of some of these villas into places of debauchery and prostitution, also denouncing unfair competition from unscrupulous owners who operate entirely illegally, while professionals in order are subject to heavy tax obligations.
To put an end to this practice that tarnishes the reputation of the ochre city as a flagship tourist destination of the kingdom, the owners of guest houses and hotels call on the competent authorities to strengthen the controls and apply with the utmost rigor the texts in force.
