Morocco Outperforms Portugal and Turkey as French Travel Market Slows
Departures to Morocco sold by French travel agencies fell by 3.7% in September. That decline was far smaller than the drops of more than 20% for Portugal and Turkey, as the travel market remained weak.

The contrast emerges from the latest report by Entreprises du Voyage and Orchestra, presented on 2 October by Tour Hebdo. For September departures, the number of bookings to Portugal fell by 20.8% year on year, while bookings to Turkey dropped by 22.4%. Morocco retained more customers, although it remained below its 2025 level.

The kingdom also fared better than Italy, which was down 8%, and Tunisia, which fell by 6.2%. Among the major Mediterranean destinations cited, Spain stood out with a 1.7% increase. These figures cover trips sold by agencies using Orchestra.
For Morocco, September marked a shift after strong results for July departures, which were up 6.4%. The destination is therefore no longer immune to the slowdown, but its decline remains smaller than that of the market tracked by the report: across all destinations, departure bookings fell by 5.5% in September.
Morocco remains a favorite for the All Saints’ Day holidays
The upcoming French school holidays nevertheless offer a different outlook. Morocco is among the five most-booked destinations for the All Saints’ Day holidays, along with France, Spain, Tunisia and Greece.
It holds this position in a market where nearby destinations are faring better than long-haul trips. As of the end of September, bookings for the All Saints’ Day holidays were up 2.8% for medium-haul travel, while bookings overall remained down 2.6%.

New sales recorded in September are also offering professionals some relief. Medium-haul travel is the only segment to see an increase in the number of bookings. Across the market, agencies are generating more revenue despite bookings remaining slightly lower, thanks to an increase in average spending.
Customers are also booking further in advance: the average time between booking and departure has reached 74 days. Nearly one-third of bookings are now made more than three months before travel, compared with 28.6% in September 2025.
