Morocco Opens Candidate Registration for September 8 General Elections

Candidacies for the general elections of September 8, 2021 in Morocco will be received from August 16 to 25, 2021. This is what a press release from the Minister of the Interior indicated, urging candidates to comply with the legal provisions in force, in order to avoid their rejection.
"In the framework of the general elections scheduled for Wednesday, September 8, 2021 to elect the members of the House of Representatives, the members of the Communal and District Councils as well as the members of the Regional Councils, the Minister of the Interior reminds the voters that the period for filing candidacies for these elections will begin on Monday, August 16, 2021 and will continue until Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at noon."
Candidacies for the election of members of the House of Representatives will be filed in the form of candidate lists by the proxy of each list, at the headquarters of the prefecture, province or district prefecture concerned, for local electoral constituencies, and at the headquarters of the regional wali for regional electoral constituencies. For members of the Communal and District Councils, the candidacies will be filed, in each case, in the form of candidate lists or individual declarations of candidacy by the proxy of each list or each candidate, at the headquarters of the local administrative authority to which the commune or district belongs.
Regarding the candidacies of members of the Regional Councils, they will be filed in the form of candidate lists by the proxy of each list at the headquarters of the prefecture, province or district prefecture belonging to the region concerned, the press release of the minister stressed, noting that any person wishing to run in the elections could obtain the forms for individual declarations of candidacy or candidate lists, as the case may be, from the local administrative authorities of their constituency.
In addition, any proxy of a candidate list or the candidate must be sure that their declarations of candidacy comply with the conditions and formalities in force in order not to have their file rejected. As for the election campaign, it will take place from Thursday, August 26 to Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at midnight, the minister specified.
