Former Moroccan PM Benkirane Poised for Political Comeback in September Elections

Abdelilah Benkirane, former Head of Government and former Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) could run in the next legislative elections to be held next September. The local general assembly of the party has appointed him as head of the PJD list in Salé.
During the local general assembly of the PJD held last Saturday, the participants approved the candidacy of Abdelilah Benkirane for the next legislative elections. The latter did not participate in the proceedings. In accordance with the internal regulations of the Islamist party which stipulate that the GA proposes three candidates to the general secretariat to choose one, 21 of the 24 members present also appointed the president of the PJD group in the House of Advisors, Nabil Chikhi, and Aziz Ben Brahim as heads of the list in Salé.
Abdelilah Benkirane has not, for the moment, reacted to his candidacy. Former head of the executive, he was elected several times as a deputy in this constituency. A possible victory for the politician will mark his return to the leadership of the PJD after the next national congress of the party.
