Morocco’s Open Sky Agreement Boosts Air Travel, Lowers Ticket Prices

The signing of the Open Sky agreement in 2004 saw the arrival of around fifty low-cost companies in the Moroccan sky.
The dynamic that the Moroccan air transport sector has experienced has made it possible to break the monopoly of the national operator and open the Moroccan sky to strong competition. A situation that has especially benefited passengers.
According to Infomediaire, more than 50 air operators, including low-cost ones, have chosen Morocco and started connecting the different regions at very competitive rates, since the agreement on the liberalization of the national airspace was signed in 2004.
Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism and Air Transport, stressed the importance of the new air transport model in relation to the access of low-cost companies. Having largely benefited Morocco, the agreement has allowed passengers to enjoy the benefits of positive and dynamic competition.
The minister also adds that the Open Sky agreement has forced RAM to reform its economic model, by trying to align the prices of its tickets with those of other operators.
