Morocco’s Nayef Aguerd Praises National Coach Regragui for Career Support

In an interview, Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd paid tribute to Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui for what he has been and continues to be for him in his football career.
"Walid Regragui is the one who helped me from a very young age and I am very grateful to him, so of course I was happy to find him with the national team. Walid gave me my chance in the club at the age of 17," Nayef Aguerd confided in an interview published on the website of his club, West Ham. Trained at the Mohammed VI Academy, the one who is considered one of the best central defenders in the English Premier League made his professional debut with Walid Regragui’s Fath US. According to him, it was predictable that the native of Corbeil-Essonnes would succeed in his coaching career. "I knew he would succeed as a coach and he dreamed of being a national coach since I met him. I have always been in contact with him after leaving Fath," explained the West Ham central defender.

According to him, Walid Regragui was predestined to hold the position of national coach. Recalling that he did "a fantastic job as a club coach", he believes that "nothing has changed in Walid" now that he is the manager of the Moroccan team. "He’s still the same and that’s his strength. He knows what he wants. Walid was my coach from 2014 at Fath, then he knew what he wanted and never changed. He always had a career plan as a coach. What he did at FUS, he also did with the Duhail FC club in Doha - by winning the Qatari championship - and that’s why we reached the World Cup semi-finals," the 27-year-old player added.
