Morocco: a murderous son, a broken family

The city of Fez was the scene of a family drama this Thursday morning. A 32-year-old man, suffering from psychological disorders, killed his father with a hammer after an argument over money.
The son, facing financial difficulties, would have asked his father, aged 65, for a loan. The latter’s refusal would have provoked a heated argument between the two men. The son, overwhelmed by anger, seized a hammer and struck his father on the head several times.
After committing his act, the son fled. But he was quickly caught by the police, alerted by the neighbors. The victim, seriously injured, was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the son had stayed abroad and was having difficulty readjusting to life in Morocco. In addition to his precarious financial situation, he suffered from psychological disorders and consumed drugs and psychotropic substances.
The scientific and technical police carried out the usual observations at the crime scene. The father’s body was transported to the morgue for an autopsy. The son was taken into custody and should be brought before the public prosecutor’s office at the end of the investigation.
