Morocco moving deadline customs six months MRE

Moroccans residing abroad who return permanently to Morocco can benefit from customs facilities for their move. However, the Moroccan customs guide sets an important rule: when personal effects are imported in two shipments, the deadline must not exceed six months.

A permanent return to Morocco also requires customs planning. MREs who change residence can import their used furniture, personal effects, clothing in use, as well as certain household appliances, subject to conditions.

Moroccan customs provides these facilities as part of a permanent move. They are granted on the basis of one move per family only. The change of residence and the import of personal effects must also be linked to this return.

A move in one or two shipments

The guide specifies that objects and movable effects can be imported in a single shipment. But it is also possible to bring them into Morocco in a maximum of two operations.

This flexibility can be useful for MREs who cannot transport everything immediately. But it is governed by an essential condition: all effects and objects must appear on the inventory list filed during the first import operation.

The six-month deadline to respect

The second condition concerns the deadline. The two operations must be carried out by the same customs office within six months from the date of issuance of the certificate of change of residence.

This point is important. An MRE who exceeds this deadline risks no longer benefiting from the same facilities for remaining goods. It is therefore not enough to have started your move: you must also respect the schedule set by customs.

A file to prepare before departure

To benefit from these facilities, the guide requires in particular the original certificate of change of residence, issued by the municipal authority of the place of departure or by the competent Moroccan consulate. This document must mention the status of the person concerned, such as employee, merchant or student.

The MRE must also provide a detailed, dated and signed inventory of personal effects and furniture making up their move. For those who have carried on a permanent gainful activity abroad and are returning permanently to Morocco, a detailed list of used materials and tools may also be requested.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, the permanent return must therefore be organized with precision. The rule to remember is simple: if the move is done in two shipments, everything must be declared from the start and finalized within six months.
