Moroccan Expats Face New Customs Rules for Permanent Return Home

According to the latest regulations issued by Moroccan customs, Moroccans residing abroad who plan to return definitively to Morocco must comply with certain rules regarding the import of goods.
Facilities and tolerances granted
For employees, merchants or self-employed professionals:
• Total exemption for used household goods, personal effects and clothing in current use.
• Household appliances, new or used, limited to one unit per category (e.g. one refrigerator, one washing machine, one stove).
• Non-commercial objects in limited quantities, the value of which must not exceed 30,000 Dhs, without being able to be allocated to a single type of item.
• Used equipment and tools whose value does not exceed 150,000 Dhs (payment of duties and taxes beyond this value).
For students, street vendors or workers in Gibraltar (with a residence in Gibraltar of at least 5 years):
• Total exemption for used household goods, personal effects and clothing in current use.
• Household appliances in current use without exceeding one unit of each category.
Conditions for granting exemptions and tolerances
The facilities are granted for a single move per family.
Simultaneous import of the objects making up the move and the change of residence.
Import in one go, or a maximum of two times with specific conditions, through the same customs office within 6 months.
Documents to be provided
• Original certificate of change of residence: issued by the municipal authority of the place of departure or by the Moroccan consulate.
• Detailed, dated and signed inventory: of the personal effects and furniture making up your move.
• Detailed list of used equipment and tools: dated and signed (only for those who have had a permanent lucrative activity and are returning definitively to the country).
