Morocco Makes History: First African Team to Reach World Cup Semi-Finals

A flood of reactions following Morocco’s qualification for the 2022 Qatar World Cup semi-finals. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his admiration for the Atlas Lions.
"On the eve of the 2022 US-Africa Leaders Summit, I congratulate the Atlas Lions on their victory, becoming the first African and Arab team to reach the World Cup semi-finals," the US chief diplomat tweeted, accompanying his message with the Moroccan flag. With this qualification, "Africa is making history on the field and elsewhere".
While they were on the list of outsiders, Romain Saïss and his teammates created the surprise by reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Against a favorite Portugal, Morocco gave themselves the means to continue the adventure thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri who scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute.
The Atlas Lions will face the Blues on Wednesday, December 14 at the Al-Bayt stadium at 8pm. A duel between Achraf Hakimi and Kylian Mbappe.
