Morocco Launches Study for High-Speed Rail Link Between Marrakech and Agadir

Morocco is preparing to give new impetus to its rail network by launching a call for tenders for the TGV link between Marrakech and Agadir. The Purchasing Directorate of ONCF has initiated the steps for the realization of the preliminary design studies necessary for this link, including infrastructure, civil engineering, railway equipment, railway operation and the railway operating system.
The estimated cost of the services is 120 MDH, with bids and offers to be exclusively deposited and withdrawn electronically. The opening of the bids is scheduled for May 10th.
These announcements come after the presentation of the technical details of the project to extend the high-speed line to Agadir, at the end of January, by Mohamed Rabie Khlie, CEO of ONCF, during a meeting of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and Environment Commission of the House of Representatives. This section, which will extend over a distance of 239 kilometers on a land area of 1,300 hectares, will require an investment of more than 50 MMDH (5 billion euros). The operating speed will reach between 250 and 320 kilometers per hour, according to Khlie.
Another section, connecting Kénitra to Marrakech over a length of 390 km and on a land area of 2,500 hectares, is also in the works. Detailed studies are underway and the cost is estimated at 42 MMDH, the CEO of ONCF said during the World Congress of the International Union of Railways (UIC) on high-speed, recently held in Marrakech.
