Morocco Launches Mandatory Health Insurance and Family Allowance Program in 2021

The Minister of Economy and Finance held a press conference on one of the flagship measures of King Mohammed VI’s speech on the day of the Throne Feast: Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) and family allowances.
In his speech, Mohamed VI had stated that it was time to launch the process of generalizing social coverage for the benefit of all Moroccans, according to a precise action program. After the generalization of Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) and family allowances, the program will then "be extended to other social coverages such as retirement and unemployment benefits." This project, according to the minister, will start in January 2021, and will be handled alongside that of unemployment benefits. "We want Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO) to be generalized with the same conditions for everyone. If someone wants to add a specific service, it remains a choice and they can benefit from it with insurance companies."
As for individuals engaged in a professional activity under the flat-rate regime, all their taxes and contributions will be pooled into a single fund that will offer them all social services." According to the minister, this is a project that will be implemented through "the creation of the National Agency whose mission will be to ensure the strategic management of the State’s shareholdings and to monitor the performance of public institutions."
