Morocco Launches Campaign to End Illegal Parking Fee Extortion

Following the incident that caused the death of a young motorist in Saïda near Oujda, a national campaign has been launched on social networks to put an end to the dictatorship of car guards.
Citizens must defend the free parking and denounce any attempt to give a legal character to the practice of rents erected as a rule by car guards. This is the essence of the message published on social networks as part of the National Campaign Against the Dictatorship of Car Guards.
The initiators of this campaign denounced the practice of guarding in the Kingdom. "It’s enough to buy a vest for 20 dirhams and choose a place where motorists often stop to ask them for 2 dirhams or even more. It’s absurd, and it doesn’t exist in any country," they criticized. They also argued that the people concerned are far from being professional guards, as their activity does not consist in monitoring the cars but rather in renting just a part of the public space for parking.
Furthermore, the initiators of the campaign do not intend to fight this battle alone. This is why they have asked the Government to play its part so that order reigns. According to them, it will be up to the decision-makers to offer real jobs "to the wearers of the vests and ex-convicts", in order to avoid the continued illegal exploitation of citizens by car guards.
