Morocco’s King Orders Major Military Shakeup, Retires Top Generals and Officers

King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), has carried out a major reshuffle. Generals and colonels-majors belonging to the FAR and the Royal Gendarmerie have been retired.
It is a major reshuffle within the Moroccan army. In total, 16 generals and 32 colonels-majors belonging to the FAR and the Royal Gendarmerie have been, on the proposal of the Inspector General of the FAR, Belkhir El Farouk, retired. A total of 16 division and army corps generals, as well as 32 colonels-majors and dozens of officers are affected, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. These are senior officials of the FAR, the Royal Gendarmerie and other army sectors.
Among them, five division generals: Abderrazak Boussif, Director General of the Civil Protection Directorate, Hajjaji, Sahri, Mazdoudi and Othmani. There are also 11 brigadier generals belonging to the FAR: Abrouk, Boulahyia, Ouraich, Jamil, Jazouli, Achour, Karouaz, Hikki, Hamounaicha, Kanouni and Mesnaoui. Among the 32 colonels-majors retired, there are four who belong to the Royal Gendarmerie: the regional commanders of Marrakech, Guelmim and Errachidia, as well as the commander of the East zone. Among the colonels-majors of the FAR, those belonging to the armored and infantry divisions, as well as the artillery, cavalry, engineering and health sectors have been affected.
The Inspector General of the FAR, Army Corps General Belkhir El Farouk, will have to publish in the coming days the list of new appointments in the garrisons and military positions whose officials have retired.
