Morocco’s King Orders Expanded Cooperation with Israel, Israeli Officials Visit

David Govrin, head of Israel’s liaison office in Rabat, reveals that King Mohammed VI has ordered closer ties with Israel in all aspects. Two Israeli ministers are currently visiting Morocco on an official visit.
"First of all, what we are seeing is not the creation of links out of nowhere. Israel and Morocco are renewing their relations, as they had bilateral relations in the past," said David Govrin in an interview with The Media Line. He thus refers to the diplomatic relations that Morocco suspended during the second Intifada in 2000.
"Secondly, there is a direct instruction from the king (Mohammed VI) to develop cooperation with Israel in all aspects, and this is what we are seeing," added the Israeli diplomat. "Unlike Egypt or Jordan, where the links are mainly security-related, with Morocco it is different: it is both a strategic alliance and a deep cultural link between the civilian communities. Therefore, all the visitors who come here [to Morocco] are amazed at the warm welcome they receive."
Currently, Justice Minister Gideon Saar and his colleague for Regional Cooperation, Issawi Frej, are in Morocco on an official four-day visit. A trip that is part of the dynamic of strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
