Morocco's King Mohammed VI Postpones Throne Anniversary Celebrations Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The celebration of the 21st anniversary of the accession of King Mohammed VI to the throne has been postponed due to the health crisis related to Covid-19. However, the sovereign will address a message to the Moroccan people which will be broadcast on radio and television on July 29.

"The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announces that, taking into account the preventive measures taken within the framework of the state of health emergency, declared to fight against the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it has been decided to postpone all activities, festivities and ceremonies planned on the occasion of the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, to the Throne of His Glorious Ancestors," the ministry said in a statement.

"In this context, it has been decided to postpone the reception ceremony presided over by His Majesty the King on this glorious occasion, the ceremony of swearing in of the graduating officers from the various military, paramilitary and civilian schools and institutes, the ceremony of allegiance to Amir Al-Mouminine, may God preserve Him, the Torchlight Parade organized by the Royal Guard, as well as all the parades and demonstrations attended by a large number of citizens," the same source said.

"On this glorious occasion, His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, will address a speech to His faithful people, which will be broadcast on radio and television on July 29 at 9 p.m. His Majesty will also preside, in a symbolic manner, over a reception on July 30, 2020," the statement concludes.
