Morocco’s King Extends Deadline for Development Commission Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Initially scheduled for the month of June, the deadline given to the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD) has been extended. It now has an additional 6 months, on the instructions of King Mohammed VI.
The covid-19 crisis and its corollaries have disrupted the program of the members of this commission. In a statement, the CSMD indicated that it benefits from this deadline to deepen the different aspects of the projected development model. It will also be able to integrate into its work the implications and transformations generated by the covid-19 pandemic, as well as the lessons that should be drawn from it in the medium and long term, both nationally and internationally.
Consequently, the work of the CSMD will have to be submitted for the sovereign’s appreciation no later than early January 2021.
For the commission, this extension of the deadlines should allow it to broaden the consultation and listening process. It will now be able to take better account of the expectations and proposals of citizens and the driving forces of the country in the post-covid-19 context.
