Morocco's King Calls for Open Borders with Algeria, Expert Hails 'Strategic Vision'

King Mohammed VI called for the opening of the borders between Morocco and Algeria in his message to the Nation on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the Throne Feast on Saturday. This message to Algeria is a "constructive position" that can promote the development of the two countries, rejoices the academic Abdel Fattah Belamchi.

In his Throne Speech, the Moroccan Sovereign addressed a "sincere and unconditional" call to Algeria and reflects "a strategic vision" in improving relations between the two countries, said Professor of International Relations at Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech, Abdel Fattah Belamchi, adding that only good neighborly relations should exist between the two countries. Thus, Morocco’s position opens the way for a new start in relations between the two neighbors and a diplomatic framework that surpasses any dispute, reports the Map.

The King’s speech, which also emphasized the African and Euro-Mediterranean dimensions, expresses great satisfaction in the efforts made by the State and society in managing national and international issues, specifying that the kingdom is pursuing its development and achievements through the major projects initiated. In the same speech, "the Sovereign pointed out that the Moroccans are capable of leading a new Revolution of the King and the People, [...] to face economic, social and political challenges, both nationally and internationally," added Belamchi.

The various achievements in the fight against the coronavirus, as well as its social and economic impacts, were addressed in this speech. Among other achievements, the Sovereign cited the establishment of the Fund for the management of the pandemic and the Mohammed VI Fund for Investment, the progress of the vaccination campaign, the project to launch vaccine manufacturing in Morocco and others.
