Morocco: Imam’s Killer Sentenced to 25 Years
The Court of Appeal of Fès sentenced a man in his forties to 25 years of hard labor on Thursday evening. He was found guilty of the premeditated murder of an imam in Sefrou province.
The tragedy dates back to Saturday, March 7 in the rural municipality of Ras Tabouda. Immediately after leading the Al Asr prayer, the religious leader was fatally attacked as he left the mosque. The assailant, an individual suffering from mental disorders, caught him off guard by stabbing him violently with a blade.

The violence of the attack left the victim with no chance. The imam succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the crime, causing shockwaves and deep dismay among the region’s residents.

Immediately alerted, officers from the Royal Gendarmerie of Ras Tabouda intervened to neutralize the assailant. A chase then ensued, forcing law enforcement to use their service weapons to arrest him. The suspect was subsequently placed in custody under the supervision of the competent prosecutor.
