Marrakech: A young imam killed at home, his wife between life and death
An imam was killed and his wife seriously injured during an attack at their home in the Tikoutar district, in the commune of Al Ouidane near Marrakech, on the night of Monday, January 19, 2026. The main suspect was arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie a few hours after the incident.
The individual broke into the home during the night. The imam died on the spot from his injuries, while his wife was evacuated to the emergency department of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Marrakech. She was admitted to intensive care.
The victim was a young man, father of two children, who officiated at the village mosque. The residents describe him as a modest person who maintained good relations with the neighborhood.
The gendarmes proceeded to arrest the alleged perpetrator shortly after the crime. An investigation is currently underway by the authorities to establish the precise circumstances of the case and identify the motivations of the suspect, as well as any other possible implications.
