Expelled from France, a Moroccan kills an imam during prayer
A 65-year-old imam was killed on Friday by blows from a baton in a mosque in the province of Driouch. The assailant, a Moroccan expelled from France for advocating terrorism, was apprehended by the gendarmerie.
The tragedy occurred at dawn. The individual, who was waiting for the religious leader inside the building, violently struck him on the head during the prayer. The victim, from the commune of Temsamane, died on the spot in front of the worshippers.
Around 45 years old, the suspect is a Moroccan national who had been expelled from French territory after being suspected of advocating terrorism. He had recently isolated himself in an abandoned building in a rugged mountainous area after living with his family in the town of Ben Tayeb.
Alerted by the incident, the local authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie immediately launched a large-scale search operation. The fugitive was finally located in his mountain hideout and arrested without resistance by the security forces.
