Morocco’s Justice Party Divided Over Lawmaker’s Dress Controversy

"The PJD does not have to educate Moroccans on ablution and prayer": This is what Abdelaziz Rebbah, Minister of Energy and Mines in Saâdeddine El Othmani’s government, declared regarding the case of the Moroccan deputy Amina Maelainine’s veil.
"The Moroccans did not choose us to teach them ablution, prayer or Umrah," specified the one who is also a member of the general secretariat of the party. "The Moroccans chose us to preserve public money. We manage cities and contribute to a new development model."
In an interview with the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the minister assured that his political party will not oppress anyone regarding their choices, which must, according to him, remain personal.
He mentioned the case of the deputy Maelainine, whose case is currently being debated within a committee and personally followed by the secretary general. "We’ll see how it turns out," he simply said.
For Rebbah, "the party determines the rights and duties of each person within the party and if the conduct is contrary to its duties or goes against the fundamental law, and the laws of the party, this is another matter."
To recall, photos without a veil in Paris of the PJD deputy Amina Maelainine were circulated a few weeks ago on social networks, which is completely opposite to the ideas she has been defending for several years within the parliament.
