Morocco’s Islamist Party Boycotts Israeli Foreign Minister’s Visit Amid Normalization Tensions

The Justice and Development Party (PJD) boycotted the visit of Yair Lapid, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Islamist party once again displayed its opposition to the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
Yair Lapid, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, is currently on an official visit to Morocco. The Head of Government Saadeddine El Othmani, who is also the Secretary General of the PJD, refused to meet him. There would also be no meeting between Meir Cohen, the Minister of Welfare and Social Services, and his counterpart Mohamed Amekraz, the Minister of Labor and Professional Integration. Yet the employment sector is one of the key issues of this visit.
Fortunately, the Israeli Foreign Minister met his counterpart Nasser Bourita at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates in Rabat. On this occasion, the two senior officials signed three bilateral cooperation agreements in various fields: culture, sports, youth, air services. Yair Lapid’s visit will end on Thursday, August 12.
