Morocco Investigates Major COVID-19 Outbreak at Berry Packaging Facilities

An epidemic focus of the coronavirus was discovered last Friday in units dedicated to the packaging of berries in Lalla Mimouna, in the province of Kenitra. An investigation has been opened.

This investigation will be conducted by a commission composed of the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Labor and the Interior to establish responsibilities, reports the MAP.

While the investigations continue, a field hospital has been built in the commune of Sidi Yahya El Gharb to accommodate nearly 700 cases recorded in this focus.

In the same vein, the Ministry of the Interior has issued strict measures, namely the carrying out of screening tests for all employees and the closure of the suspect units. As for the confirmed cases of covid-19, they have been transferred to the hospital.

In addition, the containment measures in the communes under the provinces of Kenitra, Ouazzane and Larache from where these employees come will be strengthened. The Minister of the Interior has called on the inhabitants of these localities to respect the new rules issued in order to curb this focus as soon as possible and for life to resume its normal course in this region.

According to the government member, these cases were discovered as part of the tests carried out in all industrial and commercial units and others, thus making it possible to detect this focus and to control it quickly.
