Morocco Introduces Molnupiravir Anti-Covid Pill to Treatment Protocol

Morocco is one of the first countries in the world to integrate the anti-Covid pill, Molnupiravir, into its Covid-19 treatment protocol, said Bouchra Meddah, director of the drug and pharmacy at the Ministry of Health and social protection.

In a statement, the official said that the members of the national scientific and technical committee have very quickly examined the drug and authorized its addition to the treatment protocol for patients in hospitals and regional centers, in order to curb acute respiratory diseases.

According to them and in accordance with the data of the American manufacturing laboratory, this drug is effective and reduces the risk of serious cases and deaths by 50%, especially if it is administered within the first five days of infection, Meddah stressed.

Consequently, the ministry has also authorized its marketing on the national market. However, the purchase requires a prescription issued by a doctor and it is available in public hospitals, university hospitals and private clinics, she explained, specifying that it will also be delivered to pharmacies.

In addition to Morocco, countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan have already approved this drug for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Several other countries have ordered it to make it available to the public, she noted.
