Morocco to Implement New Bachelor’s Degree System in September, Education Minister Says

The Ministry of Education is doing everything to ensure the launch of the bachelor system is effective in September. This is what Saaïd Amzazi, Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research and government spokesperson, indicated on Tuesday in Rabat.
This new educational system will make it possible to overcome the limits of the old system. In this sense, the framework law on the reform of the education, training and scientific research system provides new opportunities for the concordance of the national educational system with international systems, said Saaïd Amzazi, in response to an oral question on "the supply of human resources necessary for the success of the bachelor system", at the House of Councillors.
He also noted that after an analysis of the old system applied by Moroccan universities since 2003, university disengagement and the dismay of students and teachers have been observed. The main reason explaining this situation is the mismatch between the system and the labor market.
However, the implementation of the new bachelor system planned for this academic year has been postponed due to the health crisis related to Covid-19. But a gradual and experimental approach has been put in place, since 12 Moroccan universities have expressed their willingness to engage in this new system, Amzazi pointed out, not failing to specify the need to establish a set of educational standards, taking into account the digital aspect that has become essential since the spread of the pandemic.
