Morocco Awaits EU Decision on Removal from Tax Haven Gray List

As part of the update of the list of tax havens, Brussels will soon host a much-awaited meeting for Morocco. This will be an opportunity to find out if the Kingdom’s efforts will be crowned, so that its name finally leaves the European gray list.
Announced two years ago, Morocco’s withdrawal from the European Union’s gray list of "tax havens" had been postponed. Since then, the Kingdom has taken several decisions to revise certain aspects of its tax system, considered harmful.
At present, even the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is of the opinion that the Casa Finance City (CFC) tax system is not harmful in view of the legislative changes adopted in recent months by the government, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc, adding that a decree-law had been approved in September to strengthen the attractiveness of CFC. All these efforts that the European Council must take into account to pronounce its long-awaited verdict, according to observers.
This text was put in place in accordance with the will of the Kingdom of Morocco to make Casablanca a financial hub at the regional and international levels, respecting international standards, said the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, government spokesperson, Saaid Amzazi.
This decree-law will strengthen the clarity and nature of the activities carried out within Casablanca Finance City and improve the attractiveness of this hub, especially for companies eligible for the Casablanca financial center status, Saaid Amzazi stressed.
